“My mask was impeccable because it did exactly what I wanted it to do; hide my pain.” How often do we put a mask on to hide what we are truly feeling? Often, we believe as if what we feel does not matter, other people have it worse, or that no one really cares, and we internalize those feelings. We deal with our thoughts, feelings, and emotions, by not dealing with them at all. This can take a toll on our mental and physical health. It doesn’t have to. Becoming The Dope Black Therapist is a journey from tragedy to triumph. The trauma that I experienced as a child followed me into adulthood and limited me because I did not know how to manage what was feeling, until I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder, and got the help that I needed. There is a stigma surrounding mental health which keeps us from seeking the help of trained professionals. Going to a therapist does not mean that you are weak. It was one of the best decisions that I have made. Now, I get to help people work through their trauma. It’s time to heal. I got you.
